The South Coast Hospice Association is a non-profit organisation serving those patients in the UGU community that are suffering from progressive diseases such as Cancer, AIDS and Motor Neuron Disease.
Specialised care is provided at the patient's home with the back-up of our inpatient unit in Port Shepstone. Patients are referred to Hospice by their GPs, Hospitals, clinics or the community. Our Professional Home Care Nurses will visit the patient and their family in their own home.
Patients are admitted to our programme on diagnosis. We will assist with home care, counselling, medication, education and information about the illness and in any other way to ease the burden placed on the patient and their family.
Our in-patient unit is used to assist patients with pain and symptom control, respite for families through the admission of a patient for 14 days and complex end-of-life care.
At South Coast Hospice we are dedicated to the training and development of our staff and volunteers, and we are constantly looking at ways of improving the lives of those who have come to make use of the services of Hospice.
South Coast Hospice relies heavily on donations from the community in order to sustain its programmes. We have 2 charity shops which sell second hand clothes and other articles donated by the community. We are also always on the lookout for volunteers who are willing to give of their time in fundraising, home care and bereavement support, as well as to tend to our gardens and buildings.
Wish list: Computers, printers, bar size fridge (for storing medication), food parcels, children's clothing, air conditioner, paint for buildings, photocopier, office furniture, curtains and egg box mattresses. |
